Foreword

We have taken the difficult decision to disperse our breeding ewe flocks to concentrate on our core activities.

The ewes are all home bred and represent a rare opportunity to purchase genuine sheep raised in exposed coastal area.

Since 2005, we have crossbred our flocks using performance recorded genetics to drive lamb numbers, lamb weights, ewe longevity, profitability and ease of management.

Easycare genetics were introduced to remove belly and crutch wool, reduce triplets, improve maternal instincts and allow successful outdoor lambing onexposed coastal farm.

The Easycare genetics are all homebred and performance recorded with SIL in New Zealand.

The ewes have been dipped, treated with triclamox (fluke and worm) and all received a suretrace bolus at the end of September. They are all tick acclimatised.

They are available for viewing immediately and are priced ex farm 35 days post tups going out, which will minimise stress on embryos. They can be wintered by agreement with purchaser.

An exceptional young hill flock of crossbred ewes. Originally the Scottish Blackface ewes were crossed to the Easycare to improve lamb numbers, weights and profitability. The ewes were then crossed back to Easycare or Cheviot and we have over the last 3 seasons been using Viewfield New Zealand Romney’s to breed ultimately a bare bellied and bare tailed ewes.

They are outdoor Lambing and scanned 183% in 2017 with only 26 set of triplets. Unbelievably these ewes only lost 17 lambs throughout lambing, admittedly a very good year but these ewes are bred to deliver!

They are currently running with harnessed New Zealand Romney Tups. Lambs will be due from 01.04.18.

Altimeg is our hardest hill. These young ewes were also originally Scottish Blackface ewes which were crossed to the Easycare or Swaledale to improve lamb numbers, weights and profitability. The ewes were then crossed back to Easycare or Cheviot and we have over the last 3 seasons been using Welsh Mountain Rams

This has produced a slightly smaller ewe than Auchencrosh but a very hardy one. These lamb very easily and the lamb vigour is exceptional.

These ewes scanned 167% in 2017 with 5 triplets and only 2 empty ewes.

They are currently running with harnessed Welsh Mountain Tups. Lambs will be due from 01.04.18.

Ewes are tupped and lambed in silage fields, wintered on heather hill where singles return after marking. Multiples run on rough green ground until weaning. Weathers are achieving 17.5 kg from September grading R’s.

The New Zealand Romney ewes were originally purchased as Stock Ewe lambs from Kirvennie at Wigtown when their flock was dispersed. The Kirvennie Flock was formed from Viewfield and used Viewfield Rams. They have performed well for us, lambing outdoors from 1st of April on an exposed Farm with lambs easily achieving 19 kg carcasses grading U and Rs by August. We only sheared them once a year, crutching then pre tupping ( They are done already). They are Tick acclimatised and really a genuine flock ewes. The ewes have been sold.
