The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart P.L.C. had forward 64 prime cattle, 1 young bull, 28 OTM cattle, 5,744 prime hoggs and 4,668 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 12th March, 2009.

Prime cattle saw trade a little less by 3p per kilo for a plainer show of cattle, but still remained in demand. The OTM saw a buoyant trade with plain cows selling very well indeed. Top price was 152.5p for a Charolais heifer from T Armstrong & Sons, Sceughdyke. A fantastic show of prime hoggs. The 3659 hoggs over 36 kilos averaged 170p with the 2085 under 36kg averaging 167.3p. The overall average was 169.3p. There was a larger difference between good quality fleshed hoggs and plainer sorts than for sometime, but well fed hoggs were keenly sought after. The sale was topped at £108 for Texel hoggs from Rascarrel and to 205p for Beltex from Netherwood.
