The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart P.L.C. had forward 51 prime cattle, 5 young bulls, 18 over thirty month cattle, 4,440 prime hoggs and 3,891 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 18th March, 2010.

The 51 prime cattle were sharper on the week. Limousin heifers to 181.5p Hallburn, 174.5p Englishtown. Limousin bullocks 177.5p and 168.5p No 6 Stonehouse. Young bulls to 143.5p for Hereford from South Lambhill.

The 18 over thirty month cattle on offer were short of requirements and dearer on the week averaging 99p. Top prices for Limousin 131.5p West Deloraine, 125.5p Ladyhousesteads; British Blue 110.5p Gallhills; Simmental 108.5p Sceughdyke; Black & White 103.5p Becton Hall; Shorthorn 99.5p West Deloraine.

A smaller show of 4,440 prime hoggs was forward to the usual ring of buyers. The shortage in numbers resulted in a dearer trade, the overall average for the 3,699 hoggs under 46 kilos was 195.24p, while the 741 hoggs over 46 kilos were dearer on the week to level at 183.26p per kilo. Top price of 270p per kilo for Beltex’s from S.
