The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart P.L.C. had forward 46 prime cattle, 4 young bulls, 46 over thirty month cattle, 5,029 prime hoggs and 5,455 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 13th January, 2011.

A better show of prime cattle was presented to a full attendance of buyers. Trade was good for all classes and more could have been sold to advantage. Limousin cross bullocks from J.C. & D. Nicholson, The Gill sold to 184.5p per kilo, purchased by W. Kirkup, Butchers, Longtown, others to 178.5p Hallburn, 176.5p Dashwellgreen, 176.5p, 173.5p Haining House, 171.5p Dashwellgreen, 170.5p Nunscleugh; Bazadaise 181.5p Swaites; British Blue 177.5p Ladyhousesteads. Top gross bullock £1,226.68 Dashwellgreen. Over Thirty Month Cattle trade continues to improve for both fleshed and leaner cows. Cows to 111p for Limousin from The Nook, 109p Lawston, 108p The Nook, 107p Leahill, Langholm Farm and The Side, 106p Langholm, 104p Riggfoot, 103p Tinnis Hall; Montbeliard 108p Stonewalls; Blonde d’Aquitaine 107p Shankbridge End; Simmental 104p Sceughdyke; Holstein Friesian 85p Dockray Hall. An excellent show of 5,029 prime hoggs were forward. With a full ring of buyers and smaller shows at most centres across the country, Longtown capitalised with a brisk trade and for more quality hoggs forward which were still short of requirements. The sale average was 180p with SQQ (32-45kilos) 182.7p per kilo. The sale was topped at 258p per kilo for Beltex from S. Irving, Westerley. Travelled Texel hoggs from Kintyre sold to 228p per kilo from Killocraw.
