PRIMESTOCK REPORTS


The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart P.L.C. had forward 48 prime cattle, 41 over thirty month cattle, 516 spring lambs, 2,217 prime hoggs and 2,567 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 26th May, 2011.

Another good show of well finished cattle on offer but more handyweight cattle required to fill buyer’s orders. Prices peaked at 199.5p for a British Blue bullock from A. & W.J. Taylor & Son, Dashwell Green, purchased by W. Kirkup & Sons, Butchers, Longtown. Mr A. Irving, Toppin Castle sold a run of 6 Limousin heifers to average 193.1p and topped at 198.5p twice. Limousin bullocks topped at 189.5p from J.C. & D. Nicholson, The Gill.

A good show of 516 Spring Lambs was forward, with the average being 238.3p per kilo, in line with national trend.
