The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart P.L.C. had forward 50 prime cattle, 1 young bull, 26 over thirty month cattle, 1,384 prime lambs, 446 prime hoggs and 3,379 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 30th June, 2011.

A smaller show of prime cattle met an outstanding trade, up 4.5p on the week. Top of 207.5p per kilo for a Limousin bullock from A. Irving, Toppin Castle who also sold a Blonde d’Aquitaine bullock at 206.5p and Charolais heifers at 191.5p.

A good show of 1,384 prime lambs was forward with numbers short of requirements due to farmers catching up with crop in good weather. This shortage resulted in the dearest average seen this week of 215.5p per kilo. A small show of 446 prime hoggs was forward, with lambs short of requirement, hoggs with good flesh were keenly sought after, averaging 153.6p.
