The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart P.L.C. had forward 40 prime cattle, 5 young bulls, 35 over thirty month cattle, 6,281 prime lambs and 6,048 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 8th December, 2011.

A smaller show of prime cattle on offer and more buyers in attendance saw trade maintain recent high rates, peaking at 215.5p for a Limousin heifer from J. & N. Blaylock & Son, Hallburn and being purchased by Border Meats, Butchers, Lockerbie. Bullocks sold to 206.5p for a Limousin from J.C. & D. Nicholson, The Gill.

Another outstanding show of 6,281 prime lambs sold to a full ring of buyers, resulting in a tremendous average again this week. The whole sale averaged 214.7p per kilo, with the SQQ weight range averaging and excellent 218.6p per kilo. Many more lambs could be sold to advantage.
