The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart P.L.C. had forward 47 prime cattle, 2 young bulls, 15 over thirty month cattle, 3,682 prime hoggs and 5,425 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 9th February 2012.

A larger show of prime cattle saw all classes 5p up on the week and a better show was seen throughout. The sale was topped at 227.5p twice, firstly for an over age Limousin bullock from Messrs Taylor Dashwell Green and also for a fantastic Limousin bullock show by Messrs Nicholson, The Gill. Limousin heifers topped at 226.5p from A. Irving, Toppin Castle and 224.5p shown by Messrs Retson, Gardrum.

A small show of OTM cattle met a good trade, topping at 199p for a Bazadaise from Messrs Ritson, Swaites.
More could have been sold to vendors advantage and to meet buyers requirements.

A smaller show of 3,682 prime hoggs, due to freezing conditions, were forward to a full ring of buyers, with an overall average of 209.2p per kilo obtained. Export weight hoggs regularly between 220p and 240p and short of requirements, heavy hoggs easier sold than of late.

Hoggs sold to a top of 270p per kilo for Texels from Cumcrook.
