The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart P.L.C. had forward 62 prime cattle, 3 young bulls, 31 over thirty month cattle, 4,286 prime hoggs and 5,208 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 23rd February 2012.

A larger show of prime cattle, and a better show of quality saw prices peak at 219.5p for a British Blue bullock from Messrs J. Retson & son, Gardrum. Limousin heifers topped at 217.5p from Messrs R. Neill, Upper Tinwald Farm.

A smaller show of 4,286 prime hoggs was forward to the usual ring of buyers, with an overall average of 205.5p per kilo obtained. Export weight hoggs regularly between 210p and 240p and very short of requirements. Many hoggs 45-50 kilos forward proving harder to cash, please sell lighter.
