PRIMESTOCK REPORTS


The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart PLC had forward 50 prime cattle, 4 young bulls, 30 over thirty month cattle, 5,073 prime hoggs and 4,851 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 26th April 2012.

A plainer show of prime cattle forward resulting in the trade being slightly easier, although good cattle remained at recent high rates topping at 224.5p for a brilliant Limousin heifer shown by Messrs Blaylock, Hallburn. Bullocks topped at 222.5p twice from Messrs Nicholson, The Gill and Messrs Sisson, Fenton.

The 5,073 prime hoggs forward averaged 183p (199p in SQQ) well ahead of most centres this week, with 1,823 hoggs being over 46 kilos!! Best export weight hoggs and small light weight hoggs were still well sold and short of buyers requirements.
