The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart PLC had forward 69 prime cattle, 4 young bulls, 38 over thirty month cattle, 2,036 spring lambs, 442 prime hoggs and 4,425 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 5th July 2012.

Once again another good show of prime cattle which saw a sharp trade throughout and topped at 230.5p for a Limousin heifer shown by Messrs R. Neill, Upper Tinwald, and purchased by Mr J. Little. Limousin bullocks sold to 228.5p from Messrs A. & W.J. Taylor & Son, Dashwellgreen, others to 224.5p three times, twice from Messrs Taylor, Dashwellgreeen and the other from Messrs Neill, Upper Tinwald.

A larger show of 2,036 Spring Lambs averaged 194.0p per kilo (SQQ 194.7p), well in front of most centres this week, this is due to a shortage of good fleshed lambs owing to current climate problems. A smaller show of 442 prime hoggs were forward, selling at recent rates. Another good show of 4,425 cast ewes and rams were forward to the usual ring of buyers with trade similar on the week. Good lean selling ewes remain everyones priority and are still short of requirements. Rams demand premium prices and more could be sold to advantage.
