PRIMESTOCK REPORTS


The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart PLC had forward 68 prime cattle, 10 young bulls, 42 over thirty month cattle, 4,432 prime lambs and 9,174 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 13th September 2012.

A larger show of prime cattle and with 10 active buyers at ringside a buoyant trade was had throughout. Top price to 220.5p for a Limousin bullock from J.R. Nixon, Hallees, others to 216.5p from C. & A. Grieve & Sons, The Snab. Heifers sold to 214.5p shown by J. & N. Blaylock & Son, Hallburn.

A shortage of prime bulls saw the sale top at 215.5p for a Limousin from Mr J. Jardine, Yett Farm.

The 42 OTM cattle were a mixed show on offer but a good trade was had, the sale was topped at 189.5p for a Limousin from Messrs Ritson, Swaites with Black & White cows selling to 155.5p from T. & M. Irving, Becton Hall.

A smaller show of 4,432 prime lambs were a mixed trade this week with a big difference between lambs with flesh and lean lambs, trade was similar to most centres this week with an overall average of 164.7p per kilo.

Top price of 205p per kilo for Beltex from Kirranrae with a top price per head of £107 for Texels from Miss J. A similar show of 1,280 lightweight lambs saw well fleshed lambs easily sold with Swales and plainer types harder to cash. A similar show of 9,174 cast ewes and rams were forward to the usual ring of buyers with trade a couple of pounds easier on last week. Good selling Continental ewes continued at recent rates and rams constantly short of buyers requirements, realising extreme rates and a many more plainer hill type ewes forward proving harder to cash.
