The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart P.L.C. had forward 53 prime cattle, 3 young bulls, 33 over thirty month cattle, 4,890 prime lambs and 7,509 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 11th October 2012.

A plainer show of prime cattle and many more needed to satisfy the full ringside of buyers. Best quality cattle still in demand to a top of 229.5p for a Limousin heifer from J. & N. Blaylock & Son, Hallburn, others to 227.5p from Messrs R. Neill, Upper Tinwald.

Another outstanding show of 9,670 cast ewes and rams were forward to a large ring of buyers with trade sharper on the week. Heavy continental and Mule ewes were £3 to £4 up on the week, with best fleshed Blackface and Cheviot ewes £5 sharper. Many plain weathered ewes were forward, proving hard to cash.
