The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart P.L.C. had forward 38 prime cattle, 10 young bulls, 29 over thirty month cattle, 7,401 prime hoggs and 5,897 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 7th February 2013.

Another good show of quality prime cattle on offer and once again trade did not disappoint, best quality bullocks regularly selling from 220p to 230p. Top price of the day was 231.5p, twice, for Limousin bullocks, firstly from J.C. & D. Nicholson & Son, The Gill, then again from A. & W.J. Taylor & Son, Dashwell Green, others sold to 230.5p and 229.5p shown by M. & G.A. Nicholson, The Lake. The heifer section sold to 219.5p for a Charolais shown by J. & N. Blaylock & Son, Hallburn.

Another tremendous show of 7,401 prime hoggs were forward to an increased ring of buyers. All classes met a brisk selling trade resulting in a sale average of 168.5p per kilo, an increase of 13p on the week.

The sale topped at £95.80 per head and to 246p per kilo for Texels from M. Postlethwaite, Close House. Many more best quality export hoggs could have been sold as demand continues to grow. All other classes of hoggs definitely sharper on recent weeks.
