The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart P.L.C. had forward 43 prime cattle, 4 young bulls, 18 over thirty month cattle, 8,865 prime hoggs and 6,975 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 21st February 2013.

A shortage of numbers of prime cattle resulted in a fantastic trade, a much improved show of bullocks saw the sale top at 240.5p and 237.5p for Limousins shown by D.J. Garthwaite & Son, Wyseby Hill Cottage, Messrs Garthwaites run of cattle levelled at 229.7p. Other Limousin bullocks sold to 235.5p and 234.5p from J.D. & D. Nicholson, The Gill. Limousin heifers sold to 229.5p from Messrs Garthwaite, Wyseby Hill Cottage.

A large entry of 8,865 prime hoggs and an excellent quality show forward attracted more buyers.

Trade was excellent throughout the whole sale with the average unchanged on the week at 172.2p per kilo (SQQ 175.1p).

The sale topped at £100 per head for Texels from Dinwoodie Green and to 270p per kilo for Beltex from Green Aton.
