The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart PLC had forward 42 prime cattle, 12 young bulls, 36 over thirty month cattle, 45 spring lambs, 4,977 prime hoggs and 3,281 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 2nd May 2013.

A smaller show of prime cattle saw best quality well fed cattle still making 240p plus with the sale topping at 251.5p twice, both for Limousin bullocks shown by J.C. & D. Nicholson & Son, The Gill, others to 249.5p from A. & W.J. Taylor & Son, Dashwellgreen. Limousin heifers topped at 249.5p and 247.5p also from Messrs Taylor, Charolais sold to 247.5p from J. & N. Blaylock & Son, Hallburn. Limousin bullocks sold to a top per head of £1,809.63 from Messrs Taylor, Dashwellgreen.

Another large show of 4,977 prime hoggs was forward to a busy ring of buyers with all classes sharper on the week. Well fleshed hoggs of all weight ranges continue to realise a fantastic trade but many plain hoggs still keep coming forward. 103 hoggs sold as store, 252 two tooth hoggs, 1,683 light hoggs up to 36 kilos and 2,939 other hoggs. The sale average was 207.8p with a top price per head of £135.50 for Texel hoggs from Douganhill and to 283p per kilo for Beltex from Waterside.
