The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart P.L.C. had forward 50 prime cattle, 18 young bulls, 25 over thirty month cattle, 3,902 prime lambs and 6,739 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 26th September 2013.

A mixed show of prime cattle saw quality in demand with the sale topping at 254.5p for a Limousin bullock shown by A. & W.J. Taylor & Son, Dashwellgreen, others to 253.5p (twice), firstly from Messrs Taylor then again from N. Forster, The Haining House. Charolais heifers sold to 231.5p from J.W. Vevers, High Stenries.

The 3,902 prime lambs were forward to the usual ring of buyers, lambs keenly sought after although many lambs now coming forward 44 kilos +, with a shortage of well fleshed best export kinds.

The overall average of 171.5p per kilo was as good as seen this week. Top price of £100 per head for Texels from Tinnis Hall and to 211p per kilo for Texels from Keith Farm.
