HILL BRED SUCKLER SALE

The Cumberland and Dumfriesshire Farmers’ Mart P.L.C. had forward 627 at their Annual Show & Sale of Hill Bred Suckler Calves at Longtown on Saturday 24th October 2009.

All classes of cattle sold at late high rates, with averages being up around £148 on the year, sending vendors home delighted.

Judging was ably carried out by Mr John Blaylock who awarded the Jacob Thomlinson Challenge Trophy to a 13 month old Limousin heifer from D.H. & J.M. Murray, The Throp, and later realised £760 to the judge.

Reserve champion also went to The Throp for a Limousin bullock which sold at £835 also to the judge.

The highlight of the sale was an outstanding run of 151 Charolais calves from Greystoke Castle Farms, with the bullocks selling to £885 (x2) and averaging £735 and the heifers to £760 and averaging £568.
