The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart held their fortnightly
sale of store & breeding cattle at Longtown on Tuesday
2nd August, 2011.
A small show of 71 store cattle was on
offer and sold to a top of £890
for Charolais bulls from Gillalees.
The highlight of the sale was the dispersal of 40 Limousin and Simmental
cows, some with spring calves at foot and some in calf and also a
Pedigree Limousin bull from Messrs Siddle, Moss Side, Longtown. This
tremendous run of cattle were an unbelievable trade and sold to a
top of £1,700 for a Simmental cow with bull calf. The cows
with calves averaged £1,430 with the in-calvers averaging £1,054.
The four year old Limousin bull sold at £2,700.
