The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart held their annual
sale of Spring born suckler calves at Longtown on Saturday
26th October 2013.
A catalogue entry of 525 head saw some good quality cattle on offer
and trade was buoyant with averages up £40.82 on last years
high rates.
The show was kindly sponsored by Dodd & Co., Accountants and
judging was ably carried out by Mr. Will Tinning, Mossband House,
who awarded the Jacob Thomlinson Challenge Trophy to a Limousin bullock
from D.H. & J.M. Murray, The Throp which later realised £920,
the reserve champion also went to Messrs Murray for the second prize
Limousin bullock which sold at £880 both being purchased by
the judge. The cup was presented by Miss Hazel Thomlinson.

One of the highlights of the sale was the excellent run of 158 Charolais
calves from Greystoke Castle Farms with bullocks selling to £1,070
and averaging £901.38, and heifers to £880 (x2) and averaging £706.68.
