store sheep ringThe Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart PLC had forward 5,065 store lambs and breeding sheep at their sale at Longtown on Tuesday 28th October, 2008.

A large show with many distant buyers present, all classes enjoyed the best trade of the season. Top was £49.80, £49, £47.50 for Texel crosses from Lees Farm.

Suffolks £40.50 Ridley Stokoe, £40 Risehead; Charollais £37 Old Police House; Halfbreds £35.80 Whitehill; Greyfaces £41.20 Taylorburn, £39.50 Blacksmiths Cottage, £38.50 Highburnfoot; Blackfaces £32, £30.50 Chapel House, £29 Ramshope, £28.50 Sewing Shields; Herdwicks £30 The Green; Kendal Roughs £28 Church View; Swaledales £25.50 Knells, £22.80 Sinderhope Shields.

Tup lambs to £38.50 Southdene, feeding ewes £40 Cooks House.

Hill Cheviots also met the best trade of the season with buyers from Lincoln present. Top was £38.50 for a pen from Granton with others to £35.50 Singlie, £35.20 Unthank, £35 Burnfoot of Ewes.

Breeding ewes (701) met a keen enquiry with a top of £47 , £45 for Beltex shearlings from Shawhill, Greyfaces to £45 Ashfield.

Ewes to £44 for Suffolk x from Shawhill; Texels £40 Croft Avenue; Beltex £42 Shawhill; Greyfaces £38 Ashfield; Hill Cheviots £39 Craig Farm; Zwartbles £28 Streatlam Grange.

Rams (50) were good quality and again easy to sell. Suffolk shearlings sold to £260, £250 from The Lands, others £160, £150 Tushielaw; Texels £250, £240, £210 Kingside; Rouges £220, £170 Dinwoodie Green; North Country Cheviots £130 Carruthers, £120 Innergellan House; Swaledales £100 Haltcliffe; Beltex £150 Low Fauld.

Suffolk ram lambs to £190, £180, £170 The Lands; Charollais £130 Springfield. Suffolk 2 shear ram £130 Snowdon Close; Leicesters £180 Snowden Close; Charollais £110 Springfield.
