Sale ringThe Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart had forward 1,503 Store Hoggs and 866 In Lambers and Ewes with Lambs at foot at their weekly sale at Longtown on Tuesday 28th February 2012.

Store hoggs another good trade. Top of £97.50 for Suffolks from Greenlaw, others £95.50 Greyside; North Country Cheviot £84.50 Allfornaught, £83.50 Adderston Shiels; Texel £82.50 Greenknowe, £79.50 Ewelock, £79 Bushfield; Greyface £81.50 Woodhall, £80.50 Balneil; Half Bred £81.50 Ruthwell; Beltex £79.50 Ewelock, £78.50 Upper Tofts; Hill Cheviot £75.50 Milnholm; Cheviot Mule £73.50 Ruthwell; Blackface £72.50 Cannerheugh, £71.50 Barnglieshead and Kingside; Charollais £72.50 Greyside; Swaledale £62 Brigg; Herdwick £45 Middle Row.

Cast ewes to £109 Ruthwell, hill types £78.50 Greyside. Cast rams to £122 Cottage Farm.

Another large show of in-lambers met another marvelous trade throughout. Correct Greyfaces to £164 and £152 Riggheads, others £130 Bogside; North Country Cheviot £148 Priesthaugh; Texel £138 Bogside; Suffolk £130 Bogside; Hill Cheviot £125 Priesthaugh; Charollais £125, £120 Dumblar Rigg; Swaledale £110, £100 (x2) Grouse Hall; Herdwick £60 Grouse Hall. Shearlings to £152 for Texels from Bogside. Hoggs to £146, £145 (x2), £144 for Suffolks from Tonehall.

Ewes with lambs at foot were a larger entry and a great trade. Top of £71 for Suffolk crosses with twins from Bascodyke Head, with Greyfaces with singles from the same home making £68 each.
