Sale ringThe Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart had forward 1,502 Store Hoggs, In Lambers and Ewes with Lambs at foot at their weekly sale at Longtown on Tuesday 20th March 2012.

Store hoggs the dearest of the season to average £73.22 overall. Top of £99.50, £95.50, £93.50 for Suffolks from South Mains; Texel £99 South Mains, £94.50 Shaw of Dryfe; Greyface £89.50 South Mains, £83 Lynnshield; North Country Cheviot £87.50, £83.50 Carruthers; Hill Cheviot £86 Dinley, £83.50 Springwells, £80 Hartsgarth; Lleyn £84 Harper Hill; Leicester £78.50 Springwells; Blackface £76 Drannadow Farm; Herdwick £71.50 Border Rigg; Swaledale £53.50 Border Rigg.

Cast ewes to £111 for Texels from South Mains.

The breeding sheep created a lot of interest and included a grand consignment from Messrs Ridley, Patties Hill, whose in lamb Mule hoggs sold to £161, £160 and £152 with Texels at £140, he also sold Beltex geld hoggs at £145, Greyface at £128 and £120 and Texels at £125.

Ewes with lambs at foot sold to £63 for Greyfaces with twins from Rabygrange who also sold Suffolks and Cheviots with singles at £63. In lamb Greyface ewes to £100 Kirkbeck.
