The Cumberland &
Dumfriesshire Farmers’ Mart PLC held their Annual Main Sale of 1,418
Breeding Ewes, 1,055 Shearlings and 400 Dispersal sheep at Longtown on Tuesday
3rd September 2013, also this day saw the Annual Sale of Zwartbles
and rams of all classes.
 A full ring of buyers were present and trade was as expected on
the day with most classes being between £8 -£12 back
on the year. Noticeably Texel and Texel cross females of all ages
were very sought after and far easier to cash than mules. Also
included today were two local dispersals which were strongly supported
by local farmers and met a very sound trade.
The days top price was
£146 for Mule shearlings from Messrs Ridley, Patties Hill.
Ewes sold to a top of £140 for 1 crop Cheviot Mules from
Messrs Parish, Hassendeanburn. Ewe lambs topped at £86 for
Texel x from Messrs Graham, Stonehall.

The sale of 30 Rams saw a good clearance, with quality rams in
demand, selling to a top of £550 for a Texel shearling from
Messrs Irving, Kingfisher.

The Annual Sale of Zwartbles was a small show with quality lots
keenly sought after. Top price of £140 for a ewe lamb from
Mrs L Strawhorn, Broomhill Bank.
