STORE SHEEP

The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart PLC had forward 7,642 store lambs (including 2,573 Cheviots) at Longtown on Tuesday 1st October 2013.

Sale ringA large entry attracted a packed ring of both local and distant buyers, trade was again very buoyant with late high rates easily maintained.

Top £74.50 for Texels from East Foreshield; Dutch Texel £68 Greenside Farm; Beltex £65 Keld Head, £64 Sharplaw Farm; Suffolks £67 East Foreshield, £64.50 Barnsallie, £64 Park Nook; Charollais £58.50 Red House; Cheviot Mules £59.50 Crossdykes & Skelfhill; Greyfaces £63 Old Police House & Peterburn, £62.50 High House; Blackfaces £58.50 Auchencorvie, £57 Collin Bank, £52 Allensgreen; Swaledale £33.50 Naddle.

Feeding ewes £70 New Hummerbecks

The 2,573 Cheviot lambs were a mixed show with best lambs dear and in short supply, all classes a similar trade on the week. Top was £61 for Hill Cheviots from Cooms & Crossdykes, others £60 Priesthaugh. Hill Northies to £60 Whitehill, £59 Commonside.

BREEDING SHEEP

The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart P.L.C. had forward 4,359 head at their special sale of lowland sheep at Longtown on Tuesday 1st October, 2013.

There was a very good show of sheep forward, buyers were out in force with trade sharper than a fortnight ago and on other local sales. All classes of breeders were heavily sought after, especially good quality continental and Texel ewes and shearlings, although all other breeds seemed to find new homes with relative ease.

DISPERSALS
The sale included two dispersals of Greyface and Texel sheep, the first from Messrs Cowan, The Ash, Roadhead whose flock sold remarkably well. The Greyface shearlings sold at £112, 2 Shear £112, 3 Shear £104, 4 Shear £76. Texel x 2 shear £102, 3 Shear £94, to average £94.52 overall.

The other dispersal was a hill flock of inbye ewes from Messrs Amos, Broadhaugh, Hawick which again sold very well. Top was £102 for Texels 1 crop, 2 crop £86, 3 crop £66. Greyfaces £76 1 crop, £72 2 crop, £66 3 crop, £60 4 crop.
