| The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart had forward 427 store
            cattle and 134 breeding cattle at their prize show and sale of suckler
            calves on Saturday 4th October, 2008.
 All suckler calves met an excellent
            trade selling to a packed ringside of buyers with vendors going home
            well please with herd averages up around £80 - £150 on
            the year.  We would like to thank R. Dickinson, High Knipe for judging
            and also Barclays Bank plc for sponsoring the sale.  The judge awarded the championship to a Limousin
            heifer from RW & M
            Carruthers, Blacksmiths Cottage selling at £670 and purchased
            by the judge. Reserve champion was a Charolais heifer from Messrs
            Kyle, Spout Bank who also won the Best Charolais with the same heifer
            selling at £825 and purchased by J Crichton, Loughrigg. Other
