Clean cattle lacked overall quality. Top price of 187.5p paid by Messrs Nattrass, Butcher, for a Limousin bullock from Messrs Ritson, Swaites, others to 174.5p Dashwellgreen. Limousin heifers from A. Irving, Toppin Castle sold to 180.5p, 173.5p and 171.5p to W. Kirkup & Son, Butcher and Border Meats, Lockerbie, others 178.5p Newham Hall; Charolais 171.5p Jopling of Seamer.

The 49 Over Thirty Month cattle were dearer on the week. Blue Grey bullocks 143.5p Braemar; Galloway & Shorthorn 136.5p Braemar. Limousin cows 131.5p Brisco Hill, 123.5p Blackhouse, 115.5p Smithsteads; British Blue 125.5p Kilbride Farm; Simmental 115.5p Four O Boot; Luing 108.5p Glendearg; Angus 106.5p Glendearg, 104.5p (x2) Synton Park Head; Black & White 96.5p Hawkshole. A massive show of 7,122 prime lambs saw a similar trade to last week. The overall average was 147.5p with the 4,566 lambs over 36kg averaging 148.7p. Top price per kilo was 182p for Beltex’s from Clement Leaze. Top per head of £76.50 for Suffolks from Messrs W.N. Another large show of ewes and rams were forward to the usual ringside of buyers. All classes maintained recent rates, with a better show for quality of horned ewes saw several pens over £55. Top was £100 for Texel ram from J. Bendle, The Croft.
