The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart P.L.C. had forward 53 prime cattle, 1 young bull, 34 over thirty month cattle, 4,573 prime hoggs and 3,635 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 21st January, 2010.

Prime cattle saw top prices of 180.5p, 175.5p, 173.5p and 172.5p for Limousin heifers from Hallburn. Limousin bullocks sold to 177.5p Toppin Castle; British Blue 173.5p The Gill. Simmental bullocks to £1,236 Sceughdyke; Limousin £1,250 Haining House. Limousin bulls to 160.5p Nunscleugh.

Over thirty month cattle followed the national trend this week with a top price of 144.5p for a Limousin bullock from Messrs Hewson, Jerriestown. Cows to 127.5p for Angus from Burnfoot on Esk; British Blue 111.5p Nunscleugh; Simmental 109.5p Englishtown; Limousin 99.5p Sceughdyke, 98.5p Bleatarn, 95.5p Nunscleugh; Friesian 104.5p, 97.5p The Green, 88.5p The Stubb, 87.5p Halltown.

The 4,573 prime hoggs were forward to the usual ring of buyers to average 196.2p per kilo overall. Hoggs were dearer on the week and in short supply. The 1,581 hoggs weighing under 36 kilos levelled out at 198.1p and the 2,968 over 36 kilos averaged 195.6p, the dearest trade on the week thus far. Top price of 271p per kilo and to £108.50 per head for Texels from T. & M.
