The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart P.L.C. had forward 51 prime cattle, 0 young bulls, 13 over thirty month cattle, 4,370 prime hoggs and 4,078 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 18th February, 2010.

The 51 prime cattle saw a top price of 188.5p for Limousin heifers from Hallburn, 183.5p High Stenries, 182.5p, 181.5p Hallburn, 179.5p Houghton House and High Stenries, 175.5p Englishtown and Houghton House; Charolais 180.5p, 179.5p, 177.5p Hallburn. Charolais heifers to £1,228 per head from Upper Mains. Limousin bullocks to 177.5p Houghton House, 172.5p The Gill; Charolais 172.5p High Stenries; British Blue 171.5p Faulding Cleugh.

A small show of over thirty month cattle saw trade a little sharper on the week for a plainer show of cattle. Top price of 109.5p for a Friesian heifer from Messrs G. & J. Wilson, Whitehill. Friesian cows to 95.5p Milton Mains, 87.5p Halltown and Brisco Hill; Limousin 95.5p The Hagg and Randalholm; British Blue 91.5p The Hagg; Angus 85.5p The Hagg.

Another good show of 4,370 prime hoggs saw to the usual full ring of buyers present, resulting in an overall average of 188.6p per kilo.

The 1,377 hoggs under 36 kilos averaged 183.3p and the 2,969 hoggs over 36 kilos levelled at 187.1p.

Another large show of 4,078 cast ewes and rams was forward. The usual full ring of buyers were present resulting in a buoyant trade with good selling ewes £10-£12 dearer on the week. Heavy ewes kept up with recent high rates and hill ewes again were much the same.
