The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart P.L.C. had forward 36 prime cattle, 4 young bulls, 26 over thirty month cattle, 4,221 prime hoggs and 4,600 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 19th January 2012.

A small show of prime cattle saw trade slip a little but still maintained a good average of 198.4p and topped at 218.5p for a Belted Galloway bullock from R.M. & P. Armstrong, Slealands, purchased by W. Kirkup & Sons, Butchers, Longtown, with heifers to 211.5p from A. Irving, Toppin Castle.

A good show of 4,221 prime hoggs were forward to an active ring of buyers, with an overall average of 203p per kilo, with export weight hoggs regularly between 205p and 215p and short of requirements, but 45 to 50 kilo lambs harder to sell and over heavys selling well.

Hoggs sold to a top of 270p per kilo for an outstanding pen of Texels from far travelled regular customer Mr R. Mackay, Clyth Mains, Caithness.
