PRIMESTOCK REPORTS


The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart P.L.C. had forward 44 prime cattle, 18 over thirty month cattle, 5,746 prime hoggs and 6,715 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 2nd February 2012.

A smaller show of prime cattle saw a rise in trade and topped at 227.5p for an outstanding Limousin heifer from J. & N. Blaylock & Son, Hallburn, Charolais sold to 222.5p from A. Irving, Toppin Castle and 218.5p (twice) both from Messrs Blaylock, Hallburn, with Blonde d’Aquitaine bullocks topping at 212.5p shown by A. & W.J. Taylor & Son, Dashwell Green and purchased by W. Kirkup & Sons, Butchers, Longtown.

An excellent show of 5,746 prime hoggs were forward to a full ring of buyers, with an overall average of 207.3p per kilo obtained, with export weight hoggs regularly between 210p and 230p with all classes being firmer on the week and many more well finished hoggs forward.
