The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart PLC had forward 55 prime cattle, 18 young bulls, 36 over thirty month cattle, 116 spring lambs, 6,175 prime hoggs and 3,179 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 16th May 2013.

Another fantastic show of prime cattle on offer to a larger ringside of 12 active buyers, maintaining last weeks high rates. Top price was 263.5p for a Limousin bullock shown by A. & W.J. Taylor & Son, Dashwellgreen, others sold to 260.5p from J.C. & D. Nicholson & Son, The Gill. Limousin heifers sold to 255.5p from J. & N. Blaylock & Son, Hallburn, Messrs Taylor sold 3 all selling at 254.5p. Charolais heifers sold to 252.5p also from Messrs Blaylock, Hallburn. Limousin bullocks top per head to £1,849.55 from Messrs Nicholson, The Gill.

An excellent show of 6,175 prime hoggs was forward to a packed ring of buyers with well fleshed hoggs in any weight range keenly bid for. The sale averaged 216.5p. 169 were sold as stores, 355 2 tooth hoggs, 1590 lightweight hoggs and 4359 other hoggs. The sale was topped at 312p for a pen of outstanding Beltex hoggs from Messrs Gribbon, Waterside and to a top of £138.50 for Texels from Messrs Marrs. Broomhills.
