The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart PLC had forward 62 prime cattle, 7 young bulls, 34 over thirty month cattle, 161 prime lambs, 5,086 prime hoggs and 4,130 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 23rd May 2013.

An increased number of prime cattle saw trade a shade easier on the week but Limousin heifers still sold to 257.5p shown by A. & W.J. Taylor & Son, Dashwellgreen, with bullocks selling to 250.5p from D.J. Garthwaite & Son, Wyseby Hill Cottage.

Another large show of 5,086 prime hoggs was forward to the usual ring of buyers but with less firms operating for hoggs. Best quality, well fleshed hoggs keenly sought after in every weight range, but a large amount of tail end store types and two tooth hoggs were forward. 236 hoggs sold as store, 568 two toothers, 1,487 light weight hoggs and 3,130 other hoggs. The sale averaged 189.1p per kilo but best hoggs were regularly between 220p per kilo and 250p per kilo. The sale was topped at 258p per kilo for Beltex from Sorbie with a top per head of £140 for Texels from Kirkton.
