The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart PLC had forward 50 prime cattle, 16 young bulls, 22 over thirty month cattle, 4,090 prime lambs and 6,760 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday 1st August 2013.

Prime cattle continued with the national trend and were a shade harder to cash. The sale topped at 249.5p for a Limousin bullock shown by A. & W.J. Taylor & Son, Dashwell Green, purchased by W. Kirkup & Sons, Butchers, Longtown, others to 242.5p twice, firstly from Messrs Taylor then shown by J.C. & D. Nicholson & Son, The Gill. Charolais heifers sold to 232.5p from W.G. & N.A. Lockhart, Wicketthorn.

The largest show of the season so far of 4,090 prime lambs was forward to the usual full ring of buyers all keenly bidding for sheep. Resulting in a very satisfactory average of 201p per kilo, up 11p on the week. Top price of 237p per kilo for Beltex from Snowsgreen and to £113.50 for Texels from Kilnfordcroft.
