The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers’ Mart P.L.C. held
their annual show and sale of breeding rams at Longtown on Wednesday
8th October, 2008 when there were 141 Bluefaced Leicesters and 171
Suffolk, Texel & Continental rams.
A nice entry of Bluefaced
Leicesters attracted a good company of buyers, but as with other
centres only the best found any trade.
Top price was £320 for a shearling
ram from Messrs. Carruthers, Peela Hill who sold others at £250 & £220.
They also had the top average of £213 (6). Others to £200
Wanwood Hill. Aged rams to £100 The Close. Ram lambs to £140, £110
Broomisle and £100 Parcelstown & Old Police House.
Female
shearlings to £60 Collin Bank, £55 The Row, ewe lambs £150, £90
Peela Hill.
