On Friday 28th September 2012, The Cumberland
& Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart P.L.C., in conjunction with The Kintyre Agricultural
Society held its Annual Sale of Rams and Ram Lambs together with an Inaugural
Sale of Breeding Sheep which proved another great success.
An entry of 121 Rams and 224 Breeding Sheep were forward to a
full ring of buyers looking to make life easy and buy stock on
their doorstep.
The blustery conditions did little to dampen spirits and a near
total clearance was had, apart from in the Blackface ram section
which proved very difficult.
Breeding females were keenly sought after, especially of younger
age and the quality rams on offer exceeded vendors expectations,
especially in the Suffolk section where demand definitely outstripped
supply.
The sale was topped at £700 for a Texel shearling ram from
A. Pirie, Machrihanish and purchased by D. Anderson, Barnakill,
this was closely followed at £650 for a Suffolk shearling
ram from T. Cameron, Gartvaigh, purchased by Messrs Cameron, High
Machrimore.
The female section was topped at £160 for Texel gimmers
from Messrs Colville, Langa to A. Pirie, Machrihanish, followed
at £140 for Mule gimmers from Messrs Millar, Auchaleek, selling
to High Cattadale.
