SUCKLER CALVES SALE REPORT

The Cumberland and Dumfriesshire Farmers’ Mart P.L.C. had forward 756 suckled calves at their annual show and sale on Saturday 2nd October 2010.

An outstanding show of cattle on offer, one of the best for quality at this sale for many years. Trade was fantastic considering the prime cattle prices and the price of feed, with the whole sale averaging £724 for 67 more cattle and only £34 down on last year’s average.

We would like to thank the Sponsors, Alan Tuer Ltd (Ifor Williams Trailers), Blackford, and the judge Mr Alan Irving who awarded The Championship to a stylish British Blue heifer from A. & J.N. Story, Newbiggin, which later realised £1,140 to A.A. & J. Brand, Nethermyers, Fife.

The Reserve Champion went to J.W. & E.S. Woodmass, Howard House for a British Blue steer which went on to realise £930 and was purchased by Mr N. Forster, Haining House. The cup for best Charolais was awarded to W.G. & H.M. Kyle, Spoutbank for a ten month old heifer which sold at £850 to J.R. Walton, Darlington
