The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart had forward 2,354 store & breeding sheep at their sale at Longtown on Tuesday 1st March, 2011.

Store hoggs still in strong demand with several pens over £80. Top price of £97 for a Texel tup hogg from Hazelbank.

Store hoggs to £87.50, £86.80 and £86.50 for Texels from Dinwoodie Green, others £86.80 Woodfoot Farms; Charollais £76.50 Dinwoodie Green; Blackface £75.50, £69.50, £67.50 Woodfoot Farm; Suffolk £73.50 Hazelbank, £70.20 South Mains, £70 Albierigg; Greyface £72.50 Howard House, £70.50 Dinwoodie Green; Cheviot Mule £69.50 Branxholm Braes; North Country Cheviot £69.20 Woodfoot Farms; Hill Cheviot £68.50 Woodfoot Farm; Swaledale £52.50 Roachburn.

Cast ewes to £87 for Cheviot Mules from Branxholm Braes, hill ewes to £67 for Swaledales from The Park. Cast rams to £91 for Cheviots from South Mains.

Inlambers (603) were another fine entry and met a strong enquiry with all breeds easily sold. Top price of £112 and £100 for Texel shearlings from Thompson House who also sold Charollais x Suffolk at £110.

Correct ewes to £95 for Texels from Thompson House; Hill Cheviot £90, £85 Priesthaugh; Blackface £66 Thompson House. In lamb ewe hoggs to £110 and £102 for Texels from Blindhillbush who also sold Greyface at £105, Charollais at £104 and Beltex at £91.
