The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart had forward 3,403 store & breeding sheep at their sale at Longtown on Tuesday 8th March, 2011.

Store hoggs (2,704) were a quality show and trade to go with it. Texels to £91.50 (x2), £90.50, £87.50 from Messrs Wilson, New Farm whose consignment of 188 head averaged £88, other Texels £85.50 Adderston Shiels.

Top price of £93 for Suffolk crosses from Old Cambus, others £83.50 Haithwaite, £81.50 Tister; North Country Cheviot £86.50 Adderston Shiels, £83.50 North Synton, £82.50 Shoestanes; Greyface £85.50 New Farm, £75.50 Tister; Cheviot Mule £77.50 Tister; Hill Cheviot £77.50 Tister, £75.50 Oliver Road; Half Bred £75.50 Adderston Shiels; Charollais £72.50 Allfornaught; Blackface £64.80 Haithwaite, £60 Allfornaught; Swaledale £43.50 Woodside. Cast ewes to £93.50 for Texels from South Mains, hill types £63.50 Heugh, £60 Kirkton Hill. Cast rams to £89 and £81 Kirkton Hill.

Another good entry of (699) in lambers again in strong demand and were easily sold. Top of £150 for 2 crop Texels from Blindhillbush who also sold Greyface at £138 and £135.

A dispersal of Texel cross ewes from Messrs Halliday, Capelfoot sold to £140 and averaged £133 for 80 head. Lleyn £116 South Mains; Hill Cheviots to £88 Thompson House; Blackface £77, £76, £75 Tower Farm. Ewe hoggs to £90 for Texels from Thompson House; Greyface £86 Rotherhope; Blackface £60 Glenkiln.

Ewes with lambs at foot met a ready demand and easily sold to £50 per life from Margaret Drive.
