STORE & BREEDING SHEEP REPORT


The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers’ Mart P.L.C. held their Annual Sale of Breeding Sheep at Longtown on Wednesday 31st August 2011, when their was forward 3,459 head.

With an excellent show, buyers were present from Suffolk, Anglesey and South Wales, trade was at extreme rates and many more could have easily sold to advantage with all averages considerably up on the year.

Young ewes, 2/3 shear sold to a top of £146 for Texels from Medwyn Park, £132 Awhirk; Charollais £130 Newington; Greyface £122 Calvo, £116 Staffler; Lleyn £92 Stackbraes, £91 Sloda Hill; Easycare £77 South Mains.

Correct ewes to £122 for Texels from Broom House, £121 Oaktree Drive; Greyface £120 Leaona Villa, £118 Broomhouse, £113 Burnfoot on Esk; Suffolk cross £118 Hallburn, £112 Newington; Cheviot Mule £117 Chapel; Lleyn £92 The Mark, £86 Norman Farm; Hill Cheviot £80 Medwyn Park; Easycare £77 South Mains; Blackface £65 Linton.

Shearlings met an exceptional demand. Top of £230 for Texels from Kingfisher Park, others £200 Gallhills, £185 Catslackburn; Beltex £170 Harene; Greyface £158 Snowden Close, £155 Nunscleugh, £152 Fieldside, £150 Craiglea; Suffolk £133 West Logan, £124 Hallburn; Charollais £132 Ashrigg; Cheviot Mule £126 Snowden Close; Lleyn £80 The Mark.

Ewe lambs sold to £96 for Texels from Messrs Graham, Stonehall, others £95 Mossband House; Suffolk x Cheviot Mule £84 Falnash.

Also included was the Opening Sale of Rams of all Classes, with best kinds keenly sought after and others proving harder to cash early in the season. The sale was topped at £500 for a Suffolk shearling from Fenton who sold to £450 also; Charollais £400 Riggheads; Texel £350 Woodhousehill, £280 (x2) Kingfisher Park; Beltex £300 Harene.

A small show of Zwartbles were forward, selling to £155 for a shearling gimmer from Brook Farm, who also sold 2 at £150. Ewe lambs to £130 and £125 Crofthead, £110 Preston Dam.

Tups sold to £100 from Woodhousehill.
