Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report

The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart plc had forward 3,581 store hoggs and feeding ewes, also 359 in lamb ewes at their sale at Longtown on Tuesday 13th January 2015.

Another fine show of hoggs met a dearer trade with many local and distant buyers operating.

Cast ewes to £83 Well Hill, £82 Dykes and Girdstingwood, hill types to £84 Dykes.  Cast rams to £85 Hopsrig.

At the annual sale of in lamb ewes there were two consignments forward.  The first from S. Dale, Airds of Balcary, whose Texels sold at £142, Greyfaces to £120 and Blackfaces (correct below) at £64.

The second consignment from K. McDowall & Co., Girdstingwood, whose were all Lleyns and sold at £105, £104 and £100.

A Dorset ewe with twin lambs sold at £58 a life from Airds of Balcary.

There was a lot of interest from a large crowd with a good show of in lambers forward with vendors highly pleased with their prices.
