Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report

The Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Farmers’ Mart plc had forward 1,768 store hoggs, in-lambers and ewes with lambs at foot at their sale at Longtown on Tuesday 24th March 2015.

Another fine show of store hoggs saw the usual buyers present, trade very dear and similar rate to last week.

Top was £85.50 for Beltex from Calvo, others £83 Brewery House; Texel £81 Sheilla Hill, £79 Calvo; Greyface £77 Calvo; Blackface £74 Cranberry Brow, £70 Drannandow; North Country Cheviot £73 Copperthorns; Charollais £73 Blakehopeburnhaugh; Suffolk £71.50, £70 Sheilla Hill; Hill Cheviot £71.50 Crosscleugh, £71 Dunterley; Easycare £67 Low Moorhead; Romney £64 Willowford; Herdwick £64 Burnthwaite, £61.50 Rowhead; Swaledale £63 Brewery House; Kendal Rough £55 Church View.

Cast ewes to £92 Cranberry Brow who also sold hill types at £74.  Cast rams to £75 Dunterley.

In lambers were mostly hoggs and met a good trade for quality.  Top £110 for Texels from Winshield.  In lamb ewes to £93 for Cheviots from Gansclett.

Ewes with lambs were a larger entry, as usual good quality was easily sold to £72 for Suffolk cross with single from High Acres.
