Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts Limited had forward 6,091 store lambs at their sale at Longtown on Tuesday 6th September 2016.

With several extra buyers from the South and another good show of lambs, all classes again met a very dear trade. Top of £73.50 for Texels from The Crook, Middlebie, others to £72 Hightown and £71 Winshield.

Beltex to £72 Burn House, £71 Lower Ashtrees and Winshield. Suffolks to £66, £62 Satchells and £61 Vallance Drive. Charollais to £68.50 Strenaby. Greyface to £62 Butterdales & High Burnfoot, £61.50 Crindledykes. Romneys to £69.50 Croft Lane. Easycare to £69.50 Milton of Farr. Lleyns to £63 Harwood House. Swaledale to £38 East Stobbylea, £37.50 Border Rigg.

Feeding ewes to £85 for Texels from Crindledykes, who also sold hill Blackface to £59.

The first sale of 1,426 Cheviots attracted an excellent entry with plenty buyers, trade was very good with averages up £6.28 on the year. Top of £60 for Hill Cheviots from Hindhope (Elliot), others to £57 Murtholm. Hill Northies to £60 Hownam Grange, £59 Meiklewhitriggs and £58.50 Gillesbie Farms.

The 1,310 Blackfaces were also a good offering. Buyers were plentiful with trade on par with last year. Top of £49.50 from Auchengruith, others to £46.50 Crindledykes, £46 Craigieburn and £45.50 High Thorneyburn.
