Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts Limited had forward 5,491 store lambs and feeding ewes at their sale at Longtown on Tuesday 8th November 2016.

Another good entry and a large company of buyers. Trade was the dearest of the season, and many more good lambs could have easily been sold. Top of £74 and £73 for Texels from Messrs Athey, High Lovelady Shield, Nenthall, Alston, others to £72 Howberry.

Beltex to £70 Achamore. Suffolks to £67 Kinning Hall. Charollais to £64 Achamore. Greyface to £64.50 Peela Hill, £62 Spency Croft, £61.50 Low Closegill & Hamburn Hall. North Country Cheviots to £63 Kinfordcroft. Lleyns to £56 from Dolphinston. Hill Cheviot to £60 Hownam Grange. Blackface to £57 Yatesfield, £54 Laverhay and £51 Peela Hill. Swaledale to £32 Lilswood Cottage.

Cast ewes to £84 Strenaby. Hill types to £45 and cast rams to £60.

The final late season tidy up sale of breeding sheep saw around 1,000 head change hands at recent high rates as men looked to top up numbers. The sale topped at £94 for Texel shearlings from Kilncroft, followed at £78 for 3-4 crop Cheviot Mules and North Country Cheviots from Messrs Earnshaw, Achamore, Gigha.
