Longtown Store Sheep Sale Report

The C&D Auction Marts Ltd had forward 7,013 store lambs and feeding ewes at Longtown on Tuesday 3rd October 2017.

A larger show with several extra distance buyers present saw strong lambs dearer and all others similar on the week. Top of £76 and £71.50 for Texel ewe and wether lambs from Townfoot Farm, Eals with others to £67 Gillalees and £66 Whinney Hill. Beltex to £66 Lower Ashtrees. Suffolks to £65.50 Clarghyll and £61 Auchencairn. Charollais to £59.50 Moss Side (Baxter). Greyface to £61.50 Hudgillrigg and £60 Baggarah. Lleyns to £57 Brotherstone (Stewart).

Feeding ewes, over 400 sold very well to £87 for Texels from Keith Farm, who also sold hill Blackfaces at £60 and cast rams to £62.

Cheviot lambs (1,696) saw strong lamb a similar trade and smaller lambs dearer. Top of £57 for Hill Northies from Glebehead and £54 Marchbank. Hill Cheviots to £52 from Easter Alemoor, £51.50 Crossdykes, £50.50 Hermitage (Elliot) and £50 Glendinning.

Blackface lambs (1,840) met a similar trade on the week, although stronger lambs were scarcer, top of £50 from Little Tongue, £49 Black Mountain Farms and £46 Dunblane.
