Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts Ltd had forward 4,801 store lambs & feeding ewes at their weekly sale at Longtown on Tuesday 4th September 2018.

STORE SHEEP

A larger and good show of store lambs attracted a packed ring of buyers, including several from a distance. Bidding was much sharper with all classes selling at best rates of the season. Top £94 for Texels from Messrs Story, Crindledykes. Greyfaces sold to a top of £66 also from Crindledykes and Blackfaces to £48 Gartnagrenach.

BREEDING SHEEP

C&D Auction Marts held their breeding sale of 2,000 ewes and shearlings of all classes. In line with national trend, top quality shearlings and young ewes were easy to sell with plenty of bidders, although second class and older ewes were hard to cash. Rams met a keen enquiry and sold to £680 from A.R. Bell, Kirkton Farm. Included in the sale was the dispersal sale of 200 Texel x NCC gimmers and ewes, the sheep were turned out in full bloom and were well bid for with gimmers at £110; one crop at £100; two crop at £101.

Zwartbles were again well bid for, with two shear rams to £170 and two shear females to £155 & £135, all from C. Scott, Viewfields.
