Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts Ltd had forward an entry of 7,008 store lambs and feeding ewes at Longtown on Tuesday 6th November 2018.

Store lambs were a similar show of good quality and attracted the largest company of buyers so far. Trade for all classes the best of the season, with numbers short of buyer’s requirements. Top of £82 for Charollais from Howberry and Suffolks from Felton Demense. Beltex to £76 Whitstonehill. Texels to £79 Gillalees, £77 Felton Demense and £76.50 Allensgreen. Dutch Texel to £72.50 Lea Hill. Cheviot Mules to £76 Marchbank and £71 Borthwickshiels. Lleyns to £68 and £65 Height, £63 Harwood House. Greyface to £68 Lea Hill, £64.50 Well Hill and Wydon Eals, £64 Fawcettlees. Herdwicks to £59 Shaw Head. Swaledale to £40 Fawcettlees and £34 Low Stokoe.

Feeding ewes (527) to £86 and £84 Felton Demense. Hill ewes to £55 High Thorneyburn and Crindledykes.

Cheviots (1,532) were a similar show with all sizes up £5 on the week, with tops scarcer. Top of £67 for Hill Northies from Whitstonehill, £59 Dunshiel and £55 Yetholm Mains. Hill Cheviots to £59.50 Southwoodhead, £54 Setthorns and £52 Granton.

Blackface (2,001) a much larger entry and a very good trade. Top of £63 Gillalees, £59 Allengreen and Townshield, £57 Skelfhill and Townfoot.

A small select show of breeding sheep were forward selling to a top of £300 and £290 for Texel ram lambs from AR Bell, Kirton, Hawick.
