Longtown Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts Ltd had forward 7,872 store lambs and feeding ewes at Longtown on Tuesday 15th October 2019.

With buyers again out in force, all classes of lambs met a very strong demand with late prices being more than maintained, many more could easily sold to vendors advantage.

Top of £74.50 for Beltexs from Beckstones, others to £71.50 Sorbie; Texels to £73 Barnbackle, £71.50 Thornborough Farms; Suffolks to £71 Whinney Brow, £69 High House; Greyfaces to £66 Cooks House, £65 & £63 Hesleywell, £62 Bayldon; Cheviot Mules to £57.50 Southdean Lodge; Swaledale to £46.50 & £38 Tinderbank & £35 Laverhay; Dorsets to £60.50 Hazelbank; Hampshires to £57.50 Dyke.

Another large show of feeding ewes were easy to sell to a top of £80 for Texels from Glebehead; Greyfaces to £54 Waterhead of Dryfe. Hill ewes to £62 for Cheviots from Meikle Whitriggs, £60 Glebehead; Swaledales to £43 Cooks House, £35 Park House; Blackfaces to £37 Waterhead of Dryfe; Herdwicks to £28 High Lodore.

Cheviots (2,424) were forward in larger numbers and were a top quality show, trade did not disappoint with the best trade of the season realised. Top £61.50 & £59 from Messrs Irving, Mount Benger, others to £60 Granton & Crossdykes, £58.50 Glendinning.

A strong show of 2,206 Blackface lambs attracted many buyers, with many pens over £50, to a top of £61.50 & £58.50 from Messrs Dixon, Upper Burnmouth, others to £54.50 Upper Kidston, £54 The Lamperts, £52.50 The Hott, £52 Laverhay.

Many more could have easily been sold at current high rates.
