Longtown Store Sheep Sale Report
C&D Auction Marts Ltd had forward 2,826 at their weekly sale of store hoggs and feeding ewes at Longtown on Tuesday 28th January 2020.
Another good show of hoggs attracted a full ring of buyers, with best Beltex and Texel hoggs selling at a premium, all others met a very strong trade. Overall average was £70.80. the feature of the sale was the annual consignment of 150 Blackface hoggs from CB Campbell, Drummuckloch, Stranraer whose top was £82 to average £74.44.

Feeding ewes very dear to a top of £104 for Texels from Treaty Park; Suffolks to £91 Low Craglemine & Treaty Park; Charollais to £82 Crawford Hall; Greyfaces to £97 Ryecroft, £89 Macherquhat; Zwartbles to £85 Dyke Head. Hill ewes to £70 for Beulahs from Howcleugh; Blackfaces to £67 The Hott.
Cast rams to £104 for a Texel from Macherquhat, who also sold Cheviots to £81; Charollais & Suffolks to £90 Banks Head.
A small show of 300 breeding sheep sold to a great ring side of customers with many leaving empty handed. Selling to a top of £255 for three pure Texel gimmers, with the same home selling others to £250 & £210. Mule shearlings sold to £160, scanned twins, from P Gass, Aldery Terrace. Suffolks x 2-3 crop ewes to £151 from Leapsrigg. Many more could have been sold to vendors advantage.
