Longtown Store Sheep Sale Report
STORE SHEEP
C&D Auction Marts Ltd had forward 1,702 at their weekly sale of store hoggs and feeding ewes at Longtown on Tuesday 10th March 2020.
A smaller show of hoggs again met a very strong demand from the usual buyers. Overall average £74.20. Many more could have been sold to vendor’s advantage.

Feeding ewes and rams another massive trade to a top of £125 for Texels from Whiteknowe, others to £120 Loch Hill; North Country Cheviots to £115 Whiteknowe; Greyfaces to £123 Whiteknowe. Hill ewes to £85 for Cheviots from Tarrasfoot; Blackfaces to £83 Rockhall Cottage, £77 Thomas Telford; Swaledales to £59 Lilburn Estates; Herdwicks to £80 Powheads. Cast rams to £135 for a Suffolk from Whiteknowe, who also sold Leicesters to £120; Texels to £93 Hopestead.
BREEDING SHEEP
C&D Auction Marts Ltd had a fantastic entry of 1,200 breeding sheep at their sale at Longtown on Tuesday 10th March 2020, with a large entry if Hill ewes being forward.
Lowland ewes sold to one of the dearest trades witnessed all season, with Texel shearlings selling to £168 and £164. Mule shearlings to £142 and Texel ewes carrying triplets to £130. One of the highlights of the sale was the run of Swaledale 3-4 year old ewes from J. Casey, Campbeltown who sold 152 ewes scanned twins to the Bluefaced Leicester to an average of £94.67 and to top £96.
